MERIDIAN -- Meridian Police now say that what they were originally calling a homicide investigation has now been ruled a suicide.
It happened near the intersection of Eagle and Ustick.
Meridian Police said around 10 a.m. Saturday, a man who stopped to check on someone he thought was sleeping in a parking lot actually found a man who was shot in the head.
One of the employees from Norco was leaving the building to do his route and found him laying back there, and called us at that point, said Sgt. Stacy Arnold with the Meridian Police Department.
The Norco employee told police he thought that the man was sleeping in the car since it is pretty common for people to sleep in that location.
It didn't seem out of the ordinary, but he thought since he was actually outside of his car, that seemed a little peculiar, so he backed up, took another look and that's when discovered that he had been shot, said Arnold.
Paramedics took the unidentified man in his late 40's to Saint Alphonsus where he later died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Because of the nature of the death, Arnold said police are treating it as a crime scene.
Basically what we do is rule out anything that would make it criminal until we can decide, and make a determination as to what caused him to die, said Arnold.
Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said Saturday night that the incident was clearly a suicide.
Even though the crime scene is at a heavily traveled intersection, police said that not a lot of people were aware of what actually happened.
