Meridian Police searching for suspects who damaged excavators, equipment

Police said two teenage boys are suspected of damaging heavy equipment vehicles at several construction sites in north Meridian.

BOISE, Idaho — The Meridian Police Department (MPD) is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects who broke windows on several excavators at construction sites in north Meridian.

Police in a news release said at roughly 11:54 a.m. on June 30, officers responded to a report of vandalism at a construction site near the intersection of North Magical Creek and West Plateau Creek. Witnesses told police two teenage boys threw a large rock at an excavator, shattering the windows.

The two teens – one on a bike and another on a scooter – left the construction site towards McMillan Road when police said they noticed they were being watched.

Meridian Police on Wednesday said when officers arrived at the construction site, they found three excavators and one loader with shattered windows.

The department said several other construction sites were found with damaged equipment.

"There was an additional loader and excavator with shattered windows near North Glassford St and West Redwood Creek Drive," MPD said. "On West Wooley Creek Avenue, a backhoe with a cab window was shattered and on West Los Flores Drive a small excavator also had similar damage. There were also heavy equipment vehicles with similarly damaged cab windows on the Highway 16 construction site."

Police urge anyone who knows the identity of the two teens or has information on the incident to call non-emergency dispatch at (208) 377-6790 or Crime Stoppers at (208) 343-COPS.
