Meridian's free outdoor movie series returns to Settlers Park

The Sparklight Movie Night's first showing is set for Friday, May 31, at dusk and will continue every alternating Friday until August 9.

BOISE, Idaho — The return of summer sunsets sets the stage for Meridian Parks & Recreation is bringing back their Sparklight Movie Night for the 2024 season.

The first evening showing is set for Friday, May 31 at dusk and will continue every alternating Friday until August 9 at Settlers Park in Meridan. The City of Meridian is inviting movie lovers to bring their blankets and low-back chairs to enjoy six free movies showing on the inflatable big screen.

The city said those with blankets should sit towards the front, and those with chairs should be on the sides and rear seating.

While the movies are shown on alternating Fridays, the city encourages the public to attend the Bri Kleiner Park Live free outdoor concert series at Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park. The concert and the free movie series perfectly coincide.

“Our alternating Friday night free entertainment schedule was a smashing success last summer,”  Recreation Coordinator Renee White said. “By continuing to alternate our outdoor movie nights with live music, we can offer something fun that is more interesting to all age groups.”

Concessions will be available for purchase at the movie night at Settlers Park. However, movie goers don't need to hide their snacks in clever ways, as the event allows outside food.

City officials said children under the age of 18 need a parent or legal guardian to be present with them throughout the event.

"All areas of Settlers Park outside the fenced event area will close at sunset and all unaccompanied minors will be directed to exit the park," the city stated.

A list of this year's movies and showing dates is below:

  • Friday, May 31: The Little Mermaid (2023)
