EMMETT, Idaho — The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is asking the public for information after a mule deer buck was illegally shot and killed near Emmett.
IDFG said on Sept. 15, officers went to a report of a dead mule deer found 13 miles north of Emmett. They found the buck with and the suspect "removed the head, front quarters and loins, but left the tenderloins and hind quarters to waste," a news release stated.
The department said the mule deer was shot, and currently, there is no firearm season open for mule deer in the area.
"Given the current condition of the landscape in Unit 32 following recent catastrophic fires, it is particularly disheartening to see illegal activities like these taking place. Our wildlife are more vulnerable in times like these," said Dakota Smith, conservation officer.
Anyone with information about the illegally killed mule deer should call the Southwest Regional Office at (208)465-8465 or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999.
