NAMPA, Idaho — According to the Canyon County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), on July 5 at roughly 5 p.m., there was a report of an accidental shooting at the George Nourse Gun Range south of Nampa.
When CCSO deputies arrived on the scene, they said they located a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach area by a rifle. The rifle was accidentally discharged when another man was attempting to unload it, CCSO said.
The victim has been identified as Evan Michael Chase, of Nampa. Life-saving measures were performed on Chase, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
"This was a tragic incident that sadly took the life of a young man over this past Fourth of July weekend," said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. "My heart goes out to his family and friends. Unfortunately, it also serves as a grim reminder of how deadly firearms can be and why they should always be handled with the utmost care."
CCSO states that there is no more information to be shared about this accidental death.
