Nampa man dead after car falls off overpass, lands on pickup

NAMPA -- A Nampa man was killed Tuesday morning when a car flew off a Nampa overpass and landed on a pickup below.

The wreck happened at about 5:17 a.m. where Interstate 84 crosses over Northside Boulevard.

Idaho State Police say 21-year-old Tyler Callahan of Weiser was headed west on I-84 in a Chevy Impala when the he apparently lost control. The car went off the side of the overpass, falling onto Northside Boulevard.

Police say the car landed on top of a Mazda pickup truck driven by 64-year-old John Pew of Nampa that was headed northbound on Northside Boulevard. Callahan and two juvenile passengers in his car were taken by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Pew was also taken to Saint Alphonsus, where he died from his injuries.

It has not been determined if any of those involved in the crash were wearing their seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.

Northside Boulevard was blocked for more than two hours as police investigated, but was reopened at about 8 a.m.
