A Nampa man who was involved in multiple shooting incidents last weekend in Canyon County died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit in Nevada on Monday.

Anthony Erasmo Madrid Jr., 25, was involved in a series of shootings last weekend, according to a news release from the Nampa Police Department.

The first occurred Friday night at 10 p.m. in Caldwell, when Madrid shot into a car occupied by two adults and a 6-year-old child near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Ustick Road, according to the release. A woman was struck by gunfire during the incident and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday at 10:50 p.m., Madrid was spotted by a Nampa police officer who attempted to stop the vehicle he was driving. Madrid fled, according to the release, and crashed into a structure near 19th Avenue North and Fourth Street North in Nampa. Police said he then ran on foot and shot at Nampa police officers who were in pursuit.

Then on Monday at noon, Nampa Dispatch received reports of shots fired inside an apartment in the 1900 block of First Street North. No one was injured during the shooting and witnesses told arriving officers that Madrid escaped out an apartment window and fled on foot, the news release stated.

A significant pursuit followed, according to Nampa police. Madrid was located in Nampa on Monday at 4:35 p.m. and was traced from the city, through southern Idaho and into northern Nevada, the news release stated.

Nevada law enforcement agencies were alerted by the Nampa Police Department, a pursuit ensued and they attempted to stop Madrid’s car with a tire deflation device, the news release stated. While the device was successful, Madrid continued fleeing in his vehicle while shooting at pursuing officers, the news release said.

A short time later, he was involved in a single-vehicle car crash and officers said when they approached the car they found Madrid inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he succumbed to the injury, the news release stated.

Multiple local and regional law enforcement agencies assisted during the weekend episodes, according to Nampa police. The department made it a point to thank the following:

  • Caldwell Police Department
  • Canyon County Sheriff’s Office
  • Idaho State Police
  • Meridian Police Department
  • Ada County Sheriff's Office
  • Idaho Department of Correction/Probation and Parole
  • Nevada State Police
  • Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office
  • Nampa Police Department

“We are incredibly grateful that none of the victims, community members or police officers were badly injured or killed during the course of these actions,” the Nampa Police Department said in the release.
