NAMPA, Idaho — Seen very easily from I-84, the long standing Nampa water tower is being demolished early Friday morning.
The tower has been painted and maintained for nearly 50 years, but has reached the end of its useful life cycle. After a community survey in 2018, the city provided options for residents. Some options were to renovate, abandon in place or replace the water tank. The survey showed that residents wanted to replace the tower, in the same location.
The new water tank, expected to be completed in Spring of 2025, will be on ground level. It will stand about 46 feet tall, with an 80-foot diameter. It will hold 1.5 million gallons of water.
This isn't Nampa's first attempt at replacing the water tower. According to a Facebook post on the City of Nampa from 2019, the proposed plan was to demolish the tower in 2020.
