BOISE, Idaho — Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and some Treasure Valley cities are honoring the day by hosting drug take back events for the public.
The goal for the events is to give the public a way to safely drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, so they aren't stolen or abused.
The Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition (MADC) and Republic Services are partnering together to host a drive-through event for folks to safely dispose of prescription medications. The event is Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., located at Republic Services front parking lot. You can find directions to the location here.
According to a news release, this Prescription Drug Take Back event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) bi-annual National Take Back Day.
"We all have a responsibility to prevent drug abuse in our community. Properly disposing of unused medications is one easy way to help ensure prescription drugs are not abused or diverted by loved ones," said Kendall Nagy, MADC Director.
If you're unable to make it to Saturday's event, Meridian Police Department has a safe disposal box for medications to be disposed of. The box is located in the lobby at the Central Station, and is available to Meridian residents Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Caldwell is also hosting their own version of the event on Saturday as well.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Oct. 26, and Caldwell Police Department is taking prescription drugs from the public for safe disposal. The event will be hosted at the Caldwell Police Department office, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
