Navigating Teen Mental Health: KTVB and Boise State Radio hold town hall

The event is free and open to the public, it will have solution-based discussions on teen mental health issues.

BOISE, Idaho — KTVB and Boise State Public Radio are hosting a panel discussion. "Navigating Teen Mental Health," will center around solutions-based discussion and the higher rates of anxiety and depression in Idaho teenagers. Topics include, smartphones, social media and creating connections.

"At KTVB, we believe there is power in conversation and sharing ideas," said Jessica Hagan, president and general manager at KTVB, "We hope this is a good step to empowering our young people, their families and those vested in their future."

The event is free and open to the public. It's on Thursday, June 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Boise Centre on The Grove on the fourth floor of the East building. Light refreshments will be served and doors open at 5:15 p.m. Besides discussion, the event also has presentations and allows time for questions from the audience.

"With mental health as a recent focus of our newsroom," said Tom Michael, general manager of Boise State Public Radio, "we want to have a conversation with the community about the issues our teenagers are facing and how to work through them."

The moderators of the event are Brian Holmes from KTVB and Troy Oppie from Boise State Public Radio News. There will also be panelists Megan Smith from Boise State and Communities for Youth, Maja Ledgerwood from Northwest Nazarene University and Rural Social Service Solutions and  Vashti Summervill from Family Healing Pathways.
