BOISE, Idaho — Air quality concerns are causing several cancellations across the Treasure Valley going into Labor Day weekend.
Five Friday night football games were canceled, and five were postponed until Saturday due to air quality concerns. Also, Boise States University's 'Watch Party on The Blue' was canceled.
Air Resource Adviser Kati Chachere, who is stationed at the Wapiti Fire near Stanley, said there is not a clear end in sight yet for the smokey skies and unhealthy air conditions.
“Personally, I've never experienced smoke this bad,” Chachere said.
Stanley is experiencing hazardous air quality, Chachere said. She said it’s not just bad, it’s truly dangerous.
“Hazardous is not a colloquial term -- it's not something that I just say because I like the word hazardous,” Chachere said.
She with with the way smoke settles in valleys like Boise, it’s better to not spend time outside if possible.
“You can actually see the valleys on the visible satellite because the smoke is filling them up and it's not moving,” Chachere said.
While there is still fire activity, there will still be smoke, Chachere said. She said Saturday is expected to be the worst of it.
“We don't really expect that smoke to be moving out anytime soon, unfortunately,” Chachere said.
