MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — Leap Housing is opening its newest complex in Mountain Home in August, called Falcons Landing. The complex has 136 units, with a mix of rentals and homes to buy.
Bart Cochran, CEO of Leap Housing, said they want as many Idahoans to have affordable housing as possible, especially with the current housing market. Redfin data shows home prices in Idaho are up 4.4% as of May.
“If we want our community to be able to advance, we have to meet basic needs of housing,” said Kristina Shallies, a Leap homeowner.
Shallies moved into her Leap home in April 2023, after looking for a home for over a year in the Treasure Valley.
“We couldn’t find anything anywhere – we were looking from Mountain Home to Payette,” Shallies said.
Shallies said Leap worked with her and her family to provide them a home that worked for them, and now, is excited to know people in Mountain Home will have the same opportunities.
Leap works through a federal grant, Cochran said. When someone applies for a Leap home, Leap then finds rent that will work for them, to make the home affordable for the owner or renter. Cochran said the need was high in Mountain Home.
“Folks in the city of Mountain Home actually reached out originally to say, hey, in order for us to continue to be a thriving community, we're going to need to be able to have housing that's affordable for everybody,” Cochran said.
The complex will start accepting applications in July, in order to move in mid-August. Cochran said he expects they will fill up fast, and a waiting list will start when that happens.
