BOISE - The Boise City Council has approved an agreement to partner with the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation to built a state-of-the-art bike skills park in Boise.
The new park will be located in the basin between Fort Boise Park and Military Reserve. It will have tracks, rollers and other skills elements for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities. The project is still in the design phase. The park will include landscaping and improvements to the basin. No start date for construction has been set.
“We are thrilled that the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation is making a bike skills park a reality in Boise,” said Doug Holloway, Boise Parks and Recreation Director.
Holloway says interest in mountain biking continues to grow throughout the Ridge to Rivers Trail System.
“Like Rhodes Park and the Boise Whitewater Park, we look forward to working in conjunction with the City of Boise to bring this idea to life for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities to enjoy,” said Roger Quarles, Executive Director, J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation.
The land where the new bike skills park will be built is currently a dog off-leash area. The Boise Parks and Recreation Department plans to create a new and improved dog park in the adjacent flood basin.
Public input is being gathered for the new dog park including what amenities should be added. A new bathroom facility is planned for the area.
The city also plans to find a new location for the archery range, which is located where the new dog park is planned.
A public meeting will be held Wednesday, April 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Dick Eardley Senior Center to provide more information and answer questions about the new bike skills park. In addition, City of Boise staff will collect feedback on plans for the improved dog park and relocation of the archery range.
