BOISE -- A new documentary showcases some of the best fly fishing waters in United States. Waters that run right through the heart of Idaho.

"The Rocky Mountain Fly Highway" is the latest in a series of documentaries by Boise-based Wide Eye Productions that put the spotlight on Idaho. Previous films include the Emmy Award-winning "Idaho, the Movie" and "Wildlife of the West."

Narrated by actor Tom Skerritt, the film features the 500 mile route along U.S. Highway 20 from Western Wyoming through Idaho and into Eastern Oregon.

"That 500 mile section of Highway 20 weaves together some of the best fly fishing waters in the United States," said producer Jennifer Isenhart.

The scenic locales featured in the film include Cave Falls, just over the border in Wyoming; the Henry's Fork of the Snake River; the South Fork of the Snake River; Silver Creek; the Big Lost River, the Boise River, and the Owyhee River.

The film is a love story for fly fishing enthusiasts, but you don't need to be an angler to appreciate it.

"This documentary is a fly fishing movie, but it doesn't really have a lot to do with fly fishing," explains director Tom Hadzor. "It's about the places that fly fishermen go to get away from all the stuff we have going on in our lives, and there are some spectacular places."

One of the stories told in 'Fly Highway' is that of Dave and Kelsey Parker. The father-daughter duo from Boise go fly fishing together on the Boise River as often as possible.

"That's their thing, they love to go and fly fish together," said Isenhart. "It is just beautiful to see a father and daughter bond over something that's such a beautiful sport and gets them away from cell phones and texting and all the things that teenagers are in to."

"It's one of those things that brings a tear to my eye. Even though I've seen it a bunch of times, it still gets me."

"The Rocky Mountain Fly Highway" is available online and in Costco stores.

You can also watch the film on Idaho's Newschannel 7 (7.1) on Dec. 3 starting at 7:00 p.m. It will re-air on Idaho's Own 24/7 (7.2) on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m., Dec. 5 at 1 p.m., and Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
