Campgrounds around Stanley Lake were evacuated Saturday afternoon because of a new wildfire, now called the Dry Creek Fire.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office says several people called 911 after a lightning strike that occurred just before noon on Saturday, and that the fire was burning toward the Park Creek area.
The fire grew to 1,200 acres in size as it burned through lodgepole pines on Sunday. About 100 personnel are working the fire.
Sawtooth National Forest public information officer Julie Thomas said Saturday afternoon numerous aircraft were heading to the fire, and seven engines were en route from Twin Falls.
Idaho Highway 21 was blocked just east of Stanley to Lowman, but is now open with the assistance of a pilot car. There are closures on highways 21 and 17 in the Lowman area due to the Pioneer Fire.
