BOISE, Idaho — A new, three-linear park and pathway will be built along West Goddard Road, across the street from Capital High School.
The new park and pathway will create pathway connectivity, pollinator habitat, and open space in a "needed part of the city," the City of Boise said in a news release.
The property, nestled against Settler's Canal, was donated to the City of Boise by the Settlers Irrigation District in July 2022, stated the release.
"As we look to expand equitable access and parks for everyone, the opportunity to create this park and pathway means that more than 1,900 residents will directly benefit from having park space within a 10-minute walk from their home," said Mayor Lauren McLean. "This improvement project is a testament to our community partnerships, neighborhood involvement, and the desire to preserve open space in all parts of Boise."
The park will add roughly 2,800 feet of pathways, creating a new pathway from Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve to Spaulding Ranch, which are both managed by Boise Parks and Recreation. The park will put 685 homes within a 10-minute walk to a park.
Park design is anticipated to have "a shaded transit stop with public art, a 10-foot-wide accessible pathway, a shaded pavilion with seating and pollinator plantings with native shrubs and perennials," the city stated.
"Environmental elements like pollinator gardens and native plantings will create an enjoyable space for people of all ages, while advancing our goal to manage 30 percent of native habitat in our parks," Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway added. "It's always exciting when we can add to our park and open space offerings, and this improvement project will create a unique space developed in close coordination with the neighbors and visitors who directly benefit from it."
Boise City Council approved a funding request of roughly $2 million in levy funds to complete the project. That leaves $2.5 million remaining of the $10 million levy fund that was passed in 2015.
City staff is working to finalize project contracts and construction timelines.
