Ivywild Park receives new 'skate spot' for the public

On Wednesday, Boise Parks and Recreations opened its new skate feature, which will have a box platform, hip and quarter pipe for the public to "shred."

BOISE, Idaho — The sport of skateboarding and BMX continues to grow in the Treasure Valley, and due to continue supporting from the community, Boise officials opened a new "skate spot."

Boise Parks and Recreation announced the opening of its new skate park Wednesday in Ivywild Park, in an area between the pool and the softball field, which was previously underutilized.

Officials said the spot will offer opportunities for people of all ages and anyone on wheels the chance to "shred."

“This is a unique community space that continues to support the growing sports of skateboarding and BMX in our community,” Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway said.

The spot was designed and built by Grindline Skateparks, who had all sports in mind, according to city officials. It will feature a skate box platform with metal rails, curbs, a hip and a quarter pipe.

“As we continue to work toward our goal of every resident living within a 10-minute walk to a park, new features like this within an already loved park space allow us to provide more ways for Boiseans to enjoy their time outside," Boise Mayor McLean said.

The city said the skate spot was made possible through the Boise Skateboard Association and funding from the city's Energize Our Neighborhoods Neighborhood Investment Program.
