BOISE, Idaho — Thursday, June 20, is the official start of the 2024 summer season, and temperatures reflect it as we enter triple-digit numbers. Our Path Home is helping those experiencing homelessness by starting its summer cooling services.
The organization stated in a news release that it would provide more daytime hours, cooling facilities, a resource guide, increased outreach, and seasonal supplies to help manage the heat.
"In light of the projected summer heat, we are actively collaborating with local partners to ensure a comprehensive response to the needs of our vulnerable population during the coming months," said Saidee Jones, Our Path Home coordinator.
Our Path Home said the extreme heat poses a health risk. In 2023, roughly 2,300 people in the United States died from heat-related symptoms. Those who can't escape the heat are at greater risk of developing heat-related illnesses.
"This summer is predicted to be the hottest on record, but Our Path Home partners are ready to serve our community if we see an increased number of heat stress days," the organization stated.
The program will last until September. For further information about their summer cooling guide, visit their website here.
