'Ok bloomer': Boise Dandelion Festival at Sunset Park

The festival will have beer, and root beer, made from dandelions picked in Boise parks.

BOISE, Idaho — Dandelions, the weeds that homeowners often complain about, were introduced to North America from Europe. Although most people are now keen to get them out of their lawns, the dandelion is an entirely edible plant and Boise is celebrating that and promoting "urban biodiversity" with its Dandelion Festival.

"This event is free and open to all ages! Attendees age 21 and over can purchase and try the special dandelion brew made with dandelion flowers picked from Boise park sites. Plus, we'll have a dandelion root beer for sale as well. Proceeds benefit City of Good," a news release stated.

The event is at Sunset Park on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free music, vendor booths, face painting and an abundance of dandelion products to try. People can even bring their own cup to try dandelion root beer and grown-up beer made by Woodland Empire Ale Craft.
