BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho — Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a three-car crash that killed an elderly man and woman on Highway 95 near Naples, Idaho, Saturday evening.
According to ISP, the crash happened just before 4:57 p.m. on June 29, 2024, in Boundary County, Idaho. ISP said a commercial vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man was driving a 2023 red Freightliner with a reefer trailer northbound on US Highway 95.
ISP said the driver tried to brake suddenly to avoid hitting stopped traffic and lost control, skidding into the southbound lane and striking two passengers in their truck head-on.
The first vehicle struck was a 2019 Toyota SUV, driven by a 73-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman in the passenger.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was airlifted to Kootenai Medical in Coeur d'Alene. The woman later died from her injuries at the hospital, according to ISP.
The second vehicle struck was a 2011 Kia Sorento driven by a 33-year-old man from Athol, ID. He sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was left uninjured. Everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts, according to ISP.
The highway was fully blocked off for nearly five hours. The families of the people involved in the crash have been notified. This crash is still under investigation by the ISP.
ISP is asking for information or camera footage of a dark blue Ford F-150 that was seen turning west onto Schoolhouse Road from the northbound lane on Highway 195 around the time of the crash on Saturday. Anyone witnesses are asked to call 208.209.8730.
