BURNS, Ore. - A crash near Burns killed two people on Monday, Oregon State Police said.
OSP said troopers were dispatched at around 12:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 near milepost 166, just east of Burns.
Police a red 2015 Chevrolet pickup driven by 65-year-old Robert Heath of Christmas Valley, Oregon, was eastbound on the highway and tried to pass a commercial motor vehicle when the pickup hit a white 2000 Cadillac heading west.
The vehicles collided head-on.
The Cadillac's driver, 71-year-old Milton Kowalski Jr. of Redmond, Oregon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Heath and the Cadillac's passenger, 69-year-old Darlene McGown of Redmond, suffered critical injuries and were airlifted to Saint Alphonsus in Boise. Heath died a few hours later at the hospital.
The highway was completely closed for about two hours and partially closed for another two hours.
