CALDWELL -- Once a month a group of 5th graders at Wilson Elementary School can be found looking dapper in their button up shirts and ties.
The boys are members of the "Guys in Ties" club, a group organized by teacher Joe Grover.
"We have our club meeting twice a month and a formal luncheon like we're having here every month," said Grover. "We're teaching manners and appropriate etiquette."
But it's so much more than just fancy dress and learning manners. It's about teaching boys to become gentlemen and leaders in their community; It's about becoming better people.
Every luncheon features a guest speaker from the Canyon County community. Someone to broaden the boys' horizons, to show them what's possible.
They are learning about the importance of leadership, community, and academics. Grover wants to see these boys go on to a bright future.
"High school graduation is important and college is important," said Grover. "Growing up is happening earlier in life now so starting young is important."
"We're just hoping that the influence we have on them now impacts them later in life."
The members of the club seem to be catching on.
"I think it's important to know your manners and to be a good citizen," said club member Hayden Kinney.
"Because if we know that stuff it will help us in the future when we're like 30 or 40 or 20," added Camron Martin.
On the day we visited the "Guys in Ties," their guest speaker, CPA Mike Groff had some sage advice for the boys:
"You'll look back one day, and realize how important this opportunity was, to make you a better person, father, husband, member of the community."
