BOISE, Idaho — April is sexual assault awareness month, and the Women's and Children's Alliance (WCA) is hosting its first annual "Paint the Town Teal" event to raise awareness.
"Paint the Town Teal" is an awareness initiative taking place Tuesday evening, April 2, encouraging local businesses and organizations to light up their buildings, decorate windows, and wear teal to "help spark conversations" about sexual assault, according to a news release from the WCA.
Participating locations include Boise City Hall, Ada County Sheriff's Office, Zions Bank Building, One Capital Center, JUMP, and WCA. Many of these buildings will illuminate their buildings with teal lights after sundown, as part of the awareness campaign.
WCA is a local non-profit whose goal is to assist those suffering from sexual assault or domestic violence.
According to the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence, 2,233 non-consensual sexual offenses were reported in Idaho in 2021, 728 of which were rape.
WCA's website can be found here.
