MERIDIAN, Idaho — Not just another holiday – instead, a day to remember and honor the Veterans across the Treasure Valley. That was former U.S. Senator Larry Craig’s message to those who gathered at the Rock of Honor Memorial for Veterans Day.
Craig spent a majority of his career advocating for Veterans – and was the chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee during his time in Congress. For Veterans Day, he spoke to Meridian about what the day means to him.
“All of us should pause, think about it and honor it,” Craig said. “It's not just another holiday. It's a time when we recognize why we're a free country.”
People of all ages gathered at the Rock of Honor – which pays tribute to the Veterans from Meridian who gave their lives in service.
“We continually want to remind our own citizens about our history and our legacy and all of those things that are important,” Craig said.
Craig said it is important to not just recognize the meaning of the holiday, but also to take a minute to thank the Veterans for their service.
"We remain strong, vigilant with an active defense and a full recognition of those who serve and risk their lives will continually be honored in the mission of freedom that makes all of us free,” Craig said.
