Tiny homes have become a popular trend around the country and have inspired a Payette woman use the trend to help the homeless.
Gaye Selover is building tiny homes to provide a warm, dry shelter to the homeless. She said reliable shelter will help the homeless succeed in life. She even created a nonprofit called Shelter Safe Inc. to get the project up and running.
"They were starting something [similar] in Eugene, so we were going to see if we could do something like that,” Selover said. “I told my son, who had just moved up here from Virginia, that we need to do something like that."
The tiny homes are built by Selover's son and the materials are donated.
Selover has been working to improve the lives of people for suffering from homelessness for years. Her efforts started with passing out food, clothing and even tents. As she got to know the homeless community she said she saw the need for reliable shelter.
They are currently searching for property to put the tiny homes. Once they have that, they will determine how many tiny homes they need to build.
