TWIN FALLS - Sunday marked the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Perrine Bridge.
Officially named the I.B. Perrine Bridge, the span over the Snake River Canyon opened on July 31, 1976. On that day, a Ford Model T - the first vehicle to cross over the original bridge in 1927 - led a parade of cars and trucks across the Perrine Bridge for the first time.
Now, about 32,000 vehicles travel over the bridge each day.
Rising nearly 500 feet above the Snake River and 1,500 feet across, it has also become one of the premier spots in the country for BASE jumping.
