HORSESHOE BEND, Idaho — A man is believed to have drowned in the Payette River near Horseshoe Bend. According to Sheriff Scott Turner from the Boise County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), said what began as a rescue is looking like it is now a recovery.

Turner said the department received a call last night around 7 p.m. Two men from Eagle were in the Payette River at Horseshoe Bend jumping in from rocks and off a bridge when the current became too much for them.

The 23-year-old was able to swim to shore and get help. The 24-year-old has not been found. Gem County has been helping with the recovery and crews were out last night and this morning.

Turner said the department has had calls the last two weekends of people getting into the water and having a hard time getting out.

"The rivers are still high and there is still run-off. People need to pay attention to the water. it's high and cold," Turner said.
