BOISE, Idaho — Ada County Sheriff's Office K9 Astrid was cleared Tuesday to return to work in the line of duty after she and her paw-tner in crime, Boise police K9 Meko, were critically injured after being stabbed by a suspect while on the job.
The Ada County Sherriff Office (ACSO) said on their social media that K9 Astrid successfully passed her final skills and medical tests, deeming her fit to return to work with "no problem."
"We are thrilled Astrid is back with her handler, JR McGee, and helping keep us all safe," ACSO said.
Although K9 Meko is not yet ready to return to full-time work, ACSO said she and Astrid are able to partake in drug detection and apprehension work.
Fortunately, with continued medical check-ups and a bit of TLC (treats, licks and cuddles), officers can expect their right-paw-dog Meko to be back on full duty in no time.
Both dogs will receive regular checkups to see if they have any lingering health issues.
As KTVB previously reported, both dogs were stabbed by a suspect on Jan. 24. The K9s spent two days in medical care and required surgery for their injuries.
Meko and Astrid spent two days under medical supervision. Thanks to a successful operation, both K9s were released to their caretakers to begin their recovery.
