CALDWELL – Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a lengthy investigation into whether he misused public funds.

That word comes from special prosecutor Daniel Norris, who released his findings in the case to the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation was initiated after the Canyon County Board of Commissioners received several complaints last August alleging that Donahue misused his position as sheriff in support of his anti-domestic violence campaign - the Man Up Crusade.

Norris, who is the Malheur County District Attorney, stated that he reviewed the allegations and found that they were without merit.

Norris said Donahue was accused of using county resources for his own benefit or a charitable organization which he had close connections. Many of the allegations came from anonymous sources and Norris said they were not supported by evidence admissible in court.

Sheriff Donahue released the following statement to the media:

“This investigation has consumed an entire year and was based on anonymous allegations that were without merit. As a constitutionally elected officer, addressing societal issues and conducting community outreach is an inherent aspect of my position as Sheriff. This investigation has been an unfortunate distraction for Canyon County. We are moving forward. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide the highest quality public safety and help protect the vulnerable in our society.”

The Idaho Attorney General’s Office, Idaho State Police and Twin Falls County prosecutor all assisted in the investigation.
