More than 15,000 rainbow trout being stocked in Southwest Idaho waters

The stocking plans are tentative and depend on water conditions and angler safety concerns, said IDFG. Dates may change to due weather or staffing.

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) will be stocking more than 15,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout into bodies of water around Southwest Idaho, the agency announced on Wednesday.

The stocking plans are tentative and depend on water conditions and angler safety concerns, said IDFG. Dates may change to due weather or staffing. 

The following information indicates where and when the fish will be stocked, and how many fish will be stocked at each location: 

Treasure Valley: 

  • McDevitt Pond - Sept. 2-6 - 270 fish 
  • Riverside Pond - Sept. 2-6 - 345 fish
  • Settlers Park Pond - Sept. 2-6 - 75 fish
  • Wilson Springs North Pond - Sept. 2-6 - 60 fish 
  • Wilson Springs Trophy Pond - Sept. 2-6 - 60 fish
  • Wilson Creek - Sept. 2-6 - 150 fish
  • Boise River, Strawberry Glen to Barber Dam - Sept. 9 -13 - 650 fish
  • Boise River, Middleton to Eagle Road - Sept. 9 -13 - 650 fish
  • Indian Creek (Kuna) - Sept. 9 -13 - 135 fish
  • Wilson Springs North Pond - Sept. 9 -13 - 60 fish
  • Wilson Springs Trophy Pond - Sept. 9 -13 - 60 fish
  • Marsing Pond - Sept. 9 -13 - 270 fish
  • Lowman Ponds - Sept. 16-20 - 360 fish
  • McDevitt Pond - Sept. 16-20 - 270 fish
  • Riverside Pond - Sept. 16-20 - 345 fish

  • Ol'McDonald Pond - Sept. 16-20 - 500 fish
  • Meadow Creek Pond - Sept. 16-20 - 500 fish
  • Horsethief Reservoir  - Sept. 23-27 - 7,500 fish (check for closures due to fire conditions)

IDFG points out that many of the bodies of water listed above are easy to access and family-friendly. All you will need to get started in the world of fishing is a fishing license and basic tackle. 

Most of Idaho's waters are open year-round, but some have different rules. the 2022-24 Idaho Fishing Seasons and Rule Booklet is the best resource to check if the fishing hole is open or closed.
