Ribbon cutting celebrates new Canyon County expo building

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held on Thursday for the new expo building, the "Center," which is designed to bring new experiences for the fair and community.

CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — The Canyon County Fair had an exciting atmosphere on Thursday when a ceremonial ribbon cutting was held to welcome the new 45,000-square-foot facility to the fairgrounds.

"I wanted the ribbon cutting on this day because it isn’t just a new building it’s the newest part of the 138-year-old tradition, established before Idaho was a state and before Canyon County was a county”, said Fair Director Dianna Sinner.

The "Center” is a new multi-use facility that will serve the fair itself, City of Caldwell events, the Caldwell night rodeo, Simplot stadium events, and activities for the College of Idaho.

With collaborative support from Canyon County and the City of Caldwell, the fair expanded, welcoming the new facility, which rarely happens in the fair industry, making this a milestone.

“Behind us is a road paved with vision, negotiation, sweat, hard work, dedication and appropriation, it’s a beautiful facility… A gift from the citizens to the citizens”, said Canyon County Commissioner Leslie Van Beek.

The $7.6 million facility aims to provide a 'cooler' experience for the public year-round, as well as an additional experience when the fair is in full swing.
