BOISE -- Few broadcasters can claim 30 years in the business -- let alone at the TV station that gave them their first major break.
KTVB's Rick Lantz is one of those lucky few.
Lantz was 25-years-old when he joined KTVB as a weatherman. He began his storied career in Weiser on the radio in 1975, and joined KTVB's ranks in 1983.
Over the last three decades, Rick's sense of humor and timing has been (like his forecasts) spot on.
Whether it was showing-off his mad skating skills on the Sun Valley rink, para-sailing at Lake Coeur d'alene (notice the get me down hand signals as he began to get sick), or the time he agreed to be the quick change guinea pig for a story at the historic Wallace Melodrama theater, Rick has dedicated his skills to the big story of the day.
You also can't forget Rick's weekly Gardening show (one of his little known at-home hobbies) than ran for several years in the 80s and 90s.
However, all of that aside, Rick knew early in his career that forecasting our weather is a science, and to do it he would need to become a certified meteorologist. So, he became one, earning certifications from the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and the meteorology program at one of the most respected institutions in the world for forecasting weather -- Mississippi State.
It's that knowledge of atmospheric trends combined with his institutional knowledge of our region that gives Rick the edge when it comes to forecasting what's coming around the mountains, or through the valley.
