BOISE -- Transportation service Lyft will launch in Boise Thursday.

The app-based ride service will officially hit the road in the City of Trees starting at noon. The company says customers will be able to get rides around the Boise area and to and from the Boise Airport.

New passengers can get $5 off their first Lyft ride in the Boise area by using the code “LYFTINBOI."

"Since its inception, Lyft has been committed to treating people better, and as a result, our drivers and passengers are incredibly welcoming and friendly," the company said in a press release. "That’s why we’re thrilled to be launching in Boise, a city with a focus on people and community that aligns with Lyft’s own."

Founded in 2012, Lyft currently operated in more than 200 cities.

The ride service is a competitor to Uber, which launched in Boise in 2014. The Idaho Legislature passed a bill in 2015 that allows rideshare compainies like Lyft and Uber to bypass city regulations and operate anywhere in the state.
