MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Treasure Valley's own Roaring Springs accepted a prestigious award last week at the World Waterpark Association conference in New Orleans.
This award comes after Roaring Springs's largest expansion to date.
The award, Leading Edge Award, is given to the most innovative and creative waterpark projects from around the world.
The Leading Edge Award also recognizes Roaring Springs for the installation of the Ellis Aquatic Vigilance System or EAVS. The system uses cameras to alert lifeguards of potential incidents in real time.
Roaring Springs is the first outdoor waterpark to install the system.
"Roaring Springs' number one core value is safety, as we strive to provide their guests with an outstanding experience," CEO Pat Morandi said.
The Roaring Springs expansion took place over the past two years and they said they opened with record attendance. The expansion features Northwest's wilderness with new features called Critter Crossing adventure pool, as well as the Geyser Grill & Bar and 16 luxury cabanas.
Roaring Springs also paid tribute to the state vegetable, featuring the world's first and only potato tipping bucket, Tippin' Tater.
"Roaring Springs' expansion is a celebration of the wilderness and wildlife of the Great Northwest," said Tiffany Quilici, chief marketing officer.
This expansion was just the first step of seven parts. The master plan will increase the footprint of the waterpark by 40% over the next ten years.
Roaring Springs plans on opening for the 2024 season on May 11.
