BOISE -- Rob Hall learned today he will spend up to 30 years in prison.

A jury found the former Ada County Sheriff's Office employee guilty of second-degree murder for gunning down Meridian attorney Emmet Corrigan in a Walgreens parking lot in 2011.

Prosecutors say Hall became angry after discovering Corrigan's affair with his wife, Kandi. They say Hall physically struggled with Corrigan before fatally shooting him with a .380 caliber pistol.

Hall's wife, Kandi, testified that her head was turned away from the struggle when the shot was fired.

The judge could have sentenced him for anywhere between 10 years to life, with parole possibilities running a wider range.

In this case, the judge went somewhere in between each side's recommendations and gave him 30 years, with the possibility of parole after around 15 years.

During sentencing, Rob Hall listened to Corrigan's mother, father and former wife tell the judge how hard it has been to cope with his sudden death.

Then, Hall chose to address the court as well.

The decisions made that night that resulted in Emmett being shot in the heart and in the head didn't just end an affair and a life, it ended my family, said Ashlee Birk, Corrigan's wife.

I am so sorry for their life... and everything just... I truly mean it when I can't find words to describe. Everything I think of is an understatement, said Rob Hall.

Hall's attorney called his sister as a character witness for him during sentencing.

She said they were all sorry for what the families have been through and that her brother had never been in so much as a fist fight before.

After sentencing, KTVB spoke with Ashlee Birk. When asked how she felt about Hall today, she said she feels sad, but says her family must work toward forgiveness to live their own lives to the fullest.
