POCATELLO, Idaho — A Rupert man was sentenced to 13 and a half years in federal prison on Tuesday for drug trafficking charges, marking his third federal conviction.
Jose Luis Arteaga, 39, was found with 368 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm when the Mini-Cassia Drug Task Force searched his Rupert home in August 2023. Detectives also located a gun, smaller amounts of cocaine, marijuana and fentanyl in Arteaga's house.
Arteaga was indicted by a grand jury in March and pleaded guilty in September. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Arteaga to serve five years of supervised release after completing his 13 and a half year prison term.
This is Arteaga's third federal conviction. In 2011, he was sentenced to five years for methamphetamine distribution and possessing an unregistered firearm. He received a 32-month sentence in 2016 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
