The Salvation Army has collected toys of all kinds for boys and girls of all ages.

BOISE, Idaho — There are lots of smiles this week at the Salvation Army for the annual Toy and Joy shopping event.

This week, the Salvation Army is hosting holiday gift shopping for families in need.

All holiday season long, families across the valley have donated toys so that those in need don't have to sacrifice rent or grocery money for holiday gifts for their kids.

The Salvation Army has collected toys of all kinds for boys and girls of all ages.

About 2,500 kids will get a gift from Toy and Joy. The Salvation Army says they are grateful for the generous community.

"It's a marvelous thing to be able to do, and we couldn't do it without the community so we want to say thank you to all of those who have donated,” said Major Rhonda Lloyd. “Even the smallest thing to us. We gave everything from stocking stuffers to guitars, everything in between, it's wonderful.”

The Salvation Army is still short of their donation goal, and they are asking for your help.

Those famous red kettles will be out to collect donations until Christmas Eve.
