BOISE, Idaho — The West Ada School District is hosting the Save My Family event which aims to teach parents about keeping their child or teen safe online.
The first event was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Centennial High School. During the event, speakers shared advice and information about today's technological landscape.
Kelli Rich, with Committing to 16, told KTVB that she encourages parents to talk about tech safety at the dinner table.
"This gives us an opportunity to speak to our kids about family values and discuss different aspects of life, to teach them and help prepare them to become adults," Rich said.
As the name Committing to 16 suggests, Rich told KTVB that she has seen that waiting until they are 16 to give them a smartphone or access to social media can help anxiety with children and young teens.
While Tuesday's Save My Family event is over, event organizers provided a list of upcoming dates:
- Sept. 10 - Rocky
- Sept. 17 - Owyhee
- Sept. 24 - Meridian
- Oct. 1 - Mountain View
