IDAHO, USA — Boy Scouts from across the Treasure Valley participated in "Scouting for Food," an annual nationwide event on Nov. 9.
"We get to serve over 211,000 people a month, and that's with partners supporting us in doing that," Jane McLaughlin, Idaho Foodbank Volunteer Services Manager said.
Boy and Cub Scouts knock on doors, collect food and drop it off at the Idaho Foodbank. From there, the food goes to local food pantries.
"It's really nice to have a program that you can go to where everybody has the same values as you, and you don't have to, you know, help question or like, help find yourself, or you have a really supportive community. And a big part of that comes from service hours of no matter where you are in the scouting program, service is encouraged and also required. And so, it's a really big benefit that we get these opportunities," said Lydia Love, of Mountain West Council Venturing Crew One.
The Idaho Foodbank said volunteers like the Boy Scouts are crucial to the work it does.
