EAGLE -- One man was killed in a crash between a truck and a delivery van in Eagle Tuesday morning.
The collision happened at the intersection of Hill Road and Idaho 55 at about 11:15 a.m.
The van, which is marked with the Pepsi logo, crashed into the back of the truck, smashing out the windshield of the van.
"Officers and first responders that were arriving found a very traumatic crash," Eagle Police Chief Patrick Calley said. "Some of the early information is that one vehicle stopped at the red light, and the other vehicle failed to stop for that red light."
The driver of the van was killed in the wreck, according to the sheriff's office. His name has not yet been released.
The truck driver suffered only minor injuries, Calley said.
Idaho 55 was blocked for several hours in both directions between Highway 44 and Floating Feather Road, according to police, while Hill Road was blocked between Horseshoe Bend Road and Echo Hawk. The roads were back open as of around 4 p.m.
Calley said the cause of the wreck remains under investigation but suggested distracted driving may have played a role.
"Our investigation will lead us to the absolute causes of this thing, but there are some early indications of evidence that not everybody was engaged in driving here," he said.
"The roads are dangerous enough. Driving is very dangerous," Calley said. "But you introduce, like I said, cell phones, distractions, things occupying your mind in multiple ways - we need you driving. we all want to be safe."
