IDAHO, USA — Capitol Distributing is recalling 3,934 prepared turkey and cheese, chicken salad and egg salad sandwiches that were potentially cross contaminated with sesame. The company, along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on Feb. 15.
The sandwiches were distributed at various stores across the state and in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Utah. Anyone with a sesame allergy or sesame sensitivity should avoid eating and return to the store it was purchased at for a refund.
"Customers could have encountered these options within convenience store coolers as early as February 8. The sandwiches are made fresh and delivered with refrigerated transport. Shelf life is approximately 9 days, the FDA website states.
The possible contamination with sesame was thought to have happened when the turkey and cheese sandwiches were prepared on the same surface area that egg salad sandwiches and chicken salad on croissants were made.
"A new bread source for sandwiches included sesame and the allergen was incorrectly left off of updated sandwich labels. The labels have been updated and any future possibility of cross contact has been eliminated," the website stated.
The company has not received any complaints to date.
