BOISE, Idaho — The holidays are a time for people to come together, but for children in the hospital, the season may not be as festive. Local law enforcement has recognized that and for several years have put on the "Shine A Light" event.
The Boise Police Department, and several other emergency responders, go to St. Luke's Children's Hospital and Idaho Elks Children's Pavilion where they turn on their lights and put on a show for kids and their families on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
"The annual "Shine A Light" event is intended to show love and support for kids and families in the hospital during the holidays. The 15-minute light display has become a valued tradition, with St. Luke's working alongside local officials to light up the area along Avenue B and Jefferson Street near the Boise hospital with dozens of vehicles," the hospital stated on social media.
People are also encouraged to come to the event and brighten a child's holiday season. Patients are encouraged to look out their windows and see some sparkly lights and smiling faces. There will be road closures in the area at that time and the hospital stated that drones may be used by local officials to record the event.
