BOISE, Idaho — Santiago Prieto, 63, of Boise was arrested at a Super 8 Hotel in Monday morning after firing his gun out of his hotel room window and in the direction of three officers, according to the Boise Police Department (BPD).
"Early this morning our first responders were met with gunfire while responding to a community member's request for medical assistance. Our officers did an excellent job isolating and containing the situation and using appropriate tools and tactics to safely resolve this incident," said Boise Police Captain Jim Quackenbush.
Prieto is being charged with four felony counts, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
BPD said that approximately 4:20 a.m. dispatch received a call from an individual requesting medical help. Upon arrival, officer heard gunshots. As police were positioning themselves in the parking lot to better evaluate and address the situation, the suspect discharged a gun two more times. One of which was in the direction of three officers.
Boise Police Department determined that Prieto was firing the weapon out of his hotel room window. Officers then negotiated with him, eventually convincing him to exit the room voluntarily without the gun.
The scene was deemed 'secure' and Prieto was taken into custody by 5:45 a.m.
"I want to thank our regional law enforcement partners including Idaho State Police and the Ada County Sheriff's Office for their fast response to assist us as well," Quackenbush said.
Hotel guests were told to shelter in place while officers located the suspect and took them into custody.
Police said nobody was injured in the incident.
Boise Police Department, Ada County Sheriff's Office, Meridian Police Department, Garden City Police Department and Ada County EMS all responded.
