MCCALL, Idaho — Born in New Mexico in 1944, Smokey has dedicated his life to preventing human-caused fires. To celebrate Smokey's 80th birthday, the Payette National Park is hosting a birthday party for him next Sunday.

Smokey Bear's birthday party will be celebrated this Sunday, in McCall. Honey, berries and salmon are appreciated but unnecessary to join in the festivities.

The family-friendly party kicks off at 11 a.m. at the McCall Smokejumper Base South Lawn, and lasts until 2 p.m.

At his party, kids can tour fire engines, play games, and of course, sing Happy Birthday to Smokey. Local fire and outdoor organizations will help host his birthday and inform the public on fire safety measures.

Ever generous, Smokey Bear is even giving away Smokey Mugs to the first 80 people who show up to his bash.

After the party ends, Smokey will be on his way, preventing human-caused fires and spreading fire safety awareness across the U.S.

Eighty years later, his slogan is still relevant and going strong: “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires”.
