Smoldering fireworks cause Nampa house fire, blaze reignites the next morning

A steel door in the garage kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.

NAMPA, Idaho — Fire damaged a home in Nampa late Thursday night. Then Friday morning, the fire rekindled.

Nampa Fire investigators say the fire was caused by fireworks that were thrown away in a trashcan, then left in the garage. The fire smoldered and quickly engulfed the entire front of the home.

Firefighters say they were first called to the home on Muskrat Avenue at about 11 p.m. Thursday. Firefighter officials say the front of the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived, but a steel door in the garage kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the house. The whole home has smoke damage.

Firefighters told KTVB that three people and a cat got out of the home safely. Firefighters had to give the cat oxygen, but it is okay.

Then, shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, KTVB Reporter Joe Parris was at the scene and saw smoke coming from the roof of the home. That smoke was followed by more flames. He called 911.
