Soldiers who have been fighting fires in Cascade head back to base

Soldiers from the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion have finished their 30-day deployment in Idaho and are headed back to base.

CASCADE, Idaho — Soldiers from the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion are headed back to Joint Base Lewis-McChord following their help fighting fires in Idaho. On August 17, the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion arrived on a 30-day deployment to aid the National Interagency Fire Center fight fires in Idaho. They were deployed to the West Mountain Complex Fire and directly helped fight the Snag Fire.

The men and women of the 14th Battalion then spent the next 30 days helping fire operations near Cascade. Soldiers were directly involved in creating and maintaining fire lines, mopping up hot spots and supporting with other fire operations. The battalion stayed in tents outside of Cascade for their time in Idaho.

On September 17, the West Mountain Fire Facebook page posted a farewell post for the soldiers fighting the fire saying: 

"Today we bid farewell to 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord as they wrap up their 30-day deployment supporting fire operations here on the U.S. Forest Service - Boise National Forest.

It has been an honor and a privilege to work with these incredible men and women. 

A huge shoutout to the Forest Service and Taskforce Leader, Kelly Woods for capturing and sharing their efforts with us this past month and to COL. Aaron Eklund for sharing the 9-11 ceremony with us.
