COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — SpaceX co-founder and University of Idaho alumnus Tom Mueller will be speaking with U of I and North Idaho College computer science students on Friday, Feb. 23 from 10-11 a.m.
The renowned rocket engineer will talk with students in Room 102 of Seiter Hall on the NIC campus. Originally hailing from St. Marie's, Mueller earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from U of I in 1985 before embarking on his 35-year career in rocket engineering and development.
Mueller's work eventually led to him partnering with Elon Musk to co-found SpaceX. Since then, Mueller went on to establish Impulse Space, a company specializing in pioneering space technology.
“Tom is an accomplished engineer who has made incredible achievements in his career,” said Larry Stauffer, professor of mechanical engineering at U of I. “I am always impressed at how easily he talks with students and the way they respond to him. The story of his journey from your typical high school student in St. Maries to one of the most accomplished rocket engineers has inspired many students and professionals alike.”
Mueller's visit will include a private tour of U of I's Center for Intelligent Industrial Robotics with U of I Coeur d’Alene students in the Hedlund Building on NIC’s campus.
