BOISE, Idaho — Ridge to Rivers has opened several trails that were closed the past several months, due to the colder, wet conditions winter bring to the Gem State, according to a news release.
There were seven trails closed seasonally. To prevent damage to the wet trails, Ridge to Rivers closed the trails so the ecosystems around them could get through the cold months.
Now that weather has improved, especially in the Treasure Valley, Ridge to Rivers is opening those seven trails once again.
The trails that are now open are:
- Ridge Crest Trail
- Old Pen Trail
- The northside of Who Now Loop Trail
- Heroes Trail
- Bucktail and Two Point Trails (separate pedestrian and cycling routes)
- Seamans Gulch Trail
The news release continues by saying the Ridge to Rivers team has removed all fencing and signage from the closed trails, after ensuring the conditions were good to go.
This was the first season in which many of these trails were closed to protect them from damage. According to the news release, the results show that this pilot program was very successful in protecting the trails, protecting them from rutting or widening.
The following areas are still closed, due to current conditions:
Landslide Loop -- reopening April 1
Hawkins Range Reserve and Trail -- reopening May 1
Ridge to Rivers reminds users of the trails that wet weather is sure to return this spring, and to make sure to practice good trail etiquette. While on the trail, if you come across muddy stretch of trail and you're leaving tracks, it's time to turn around. Continuing forward could damage the trail.
