CALDWELL, Idaho — Canyon County kicked off its Start by Believing campaign Wednesday which aims to encourage our community to change the way we respond to rape and sexual assault.
Law enforcement, county and community leaders gathered at the Canyon County Administration Building in support of the national movement.
This year's event featured a special art installation called "What Were You Wearing?"
The display combines the stories of sexual assault survivors with the clothes they were wearing when they were assaulted.
The goal of the art display is for people to see themselves reflected in, not only the outfits, but also to their stories.
"We have to listen," said Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue. "Whatever that person is saying, man or woman or child, that it could be true, and it may be true, and it can be true. Take the time, get them at ease and let them tell their stories."
You can catch the "What Were You Wearing?" art installation at the College of Western Idaho's main campus now until the end of the month.
The Canyon County Sheriff's Office is one of only eight agencies internationally to be recognized for their efforts in the campaign.
