Hagerman Joint School District student taken into custody after bringing gun to school, sheriff says

The school district said the Gooding County Sheriff's Office found an unloaded gun and the student was taken into custody on Wednesday. There is no current threat.

BOISE, Idaho — A student from the Hagerman Joint School District is in custody after bringing an unloaded gun to school. There is no current safety threat. 

The Hagerman Joint School District on Wednesday said a student reported to the administration about a student who brought a gun to school. The student was quickly taken out of class, and the Gooding County Sheriff's Office was called.

The school district said the gun was found unloaded, and the student was removed from the school district "to prioritize the well-being of our community."

The Gooding County Sheriff's Office confirmed the student is in custody, and charges are pending. They are still investigating the incident. 

"I understand that this news may be concerning, but I want to reassure you that the safety of our students is our highest priority," the Hagerman Joint School District said in a news release. "We are committed to maintaining a secure and supportive environment for all. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and our mental health resources to address any lingering concerns."
